DISTANCE COURSES: Library of Congress (Washington, DC)

Courses at the Library of Congress are open first to Library of Congress employees.  They are open to other students on a space available basis.

Program Assistant
Every off campus site has a student who is hired to be a program assistant.  This person helps take care of administrative duties such as ordering text books and coordinating library privileges for students and faculty.  The current program assistant for the Library of Congress is:

          Miriam Centeno
          mcen@loc.gov
          202-707-5952

Please contact Kimberly with any questions regarding issues specific to classes being offered at the Library of Congress.

Library Privileges
Students are not granted special library privileges.  User cards can be obtained at the reader registration station in Room LM140 of the Madison Building by presenting a driver's license or passport and completing a brief self- registration process.

All required textbooks and recommended texts for your courses will be available for purchase at The Catholic University of America Bookstore
located in the Pryzbyla University Center.  You may call the bookstore at 202-319-5232.

All assigned readings will be on reserve at the LC Training Office, LM 644 - sixth floor Madison building (unless otherwise specified by your instructor).

Other Information
Maps, Directions, etc.

University Closings
In the event that a distance location closes due to weather or other emergency, CUA classes held at that location will also be cancelled.  All such closings should be announced on the local TV and radio news stations.  See the complete policy on university closings.

University Holidays
In case of different holiday dates between CUA and a distance location, follow the CUA schedule unless otherwise notified by your instructor.  Scheduled class cancellations at CUA can be found on the academic calendar.

CUA ID Card
As CUA students, everyone enrolled in SLIS courses at a distance location is entitled to a CUA ID card.  They are not strictly required for study at distance locations.  They are required, however, for study on Catholic University's campus.  These cards also give students access to CUA's Mullen Library and provide admittance to CUA events open only to students.  They may also be required to access off campus libraries (e.g. George Mason Univeristy Libraries).  To find out more about the CUA ID card, visit http://cardinalcard.cua.edu.

Faculty Availability
All instructional faculty members who teach in the MSLS program in Virginia arrange office hours convenient to students and held at the class site.

Title IV Disclosure Requirements
Title IV requires institutions particpating in financial aid programs to disclose specified information to all prospective students. Please see the following page for the required information: http://counsel.cua.edu/StudLife/publications/consumerinfo.cfm
