About This Site |
About This SiteDeveloped by Montrese Hamilton and Joan O'Kane, the Librarians' Career Manifesto was conceived and written as a student project to fulfill course requirements for Dr. Ingrid Hsieh-Yee's class, Searching, Authoring, and Teaching the Internet, in Catholic University of America's School of Library and Information Science.PurposeCurrently housed on a server at CUA, this site is intended to be both a career resource for librarians and an information resource for those considering entering the profession or actively seeking a position. While there are many web sites which include job postings for librarians, none of the sites we reviewed discussed how to get a job. In our opinion, simply providing job postings or links to other sites with job postings would make our web page redundant. By including the job search process as well as relevant links and descriptive information, we hope to make our web page a one-stop resource.Resource SelectionThe resources included in this web page are those that we thought could enhance your knowledge of career information for librarians. As much as possible, we chose resources that were unique either in terms of the information provided or the additional links offered. We tried to avoid including items that had some redundancy in their coverage, but, in some cases, we included both resources in spite of the overlap because we thought them to be of significant help.UpdatingCurrency of information is essential in a high-quality web page. It is especially important for career resources because librarianship is in a state of flux. New developments can emerge overnight, especially with regard to the Internet and electronic resources. Therefore, our promise to you is that we will add new articles and links that support our mission as they become known to us, and check the hyperlinks monthly to ensure that they are still active. If you beat us to it and tell us that a link is no longer active, we will take immediate action to update it or remove it.PermissionsOur first priority is making sure this is a site so useful that you'd like to share it and refer others to it - please do! But we do ask that you respect the copyright laws that protect the original content of this site (and those you may visit through the links on these pages) by first requesting permission to reprint or excerpt substantial content. Feel free to link to this site at "http://www.campus.cua.edu/~92hamilton/home.htm".Naturally, our professor, Dr. Hsieh-Yee, has blanket permission to manipulate the content as she deems appropriate. We want a good grade, you know! CreditsWe must take a moment to thank Richard L. Casale for his PhotoShop assistance in building the images used on the main page of this site. The ALA international reader symbols were downloaded from the ALA Symbol Collection on the Chris Olson & Associates web site at www.chrisolson.comDisclaimerAlthough we make every effort to ensure that the resources listed on this site are current, relevant, and active, the dynamic nature of the World Wide Web means that there is no guarantee that you will be able to access these resources or that their content will follow previously established subjects or content guidelines. Access is at your own risk/reward!
