Qualities of a Good Music Therapist
Of all the sound therapies in use today, music therapy is the most
common. Music therapists and their patients engage in the following tasks
on a daily basis. Ask yourself if these are tasks you enjoy doing.
- Listening to music
- Writing songs
- Discussing lyrics
- Playing instruments
- Integrating music with imagery
If you do indeed enjoy the above tasks, a career in music therapy may be
a wise choice. The following are some of the benefits of receiving music
therapy. Some of these benefits are bound to rub off on the therapist!
- Increased immune system
- Reduces level of pain and anesthesia needed for women in
labor
- Relieves anxiety before and after surgery
- Relaxes infants, children, stroke victims, and Parkinson's
disease patients
- Reduces cycle of pain for victims of chronic pain
