- Create and save documents
- Cut, copy, and paste text
- Format text (e.g. bold, italics, font, font size)
- Change margins
- Create and modify a table
- Create and modify a bulleted or numbered list
- Email
- Create and send a message
- Reply to and forward messages
- Attach files to a message
- Send a message to multiple addresses
- Manage addresses in an email address book
- Web
- Open a web address (URL) to view a web page or other document
- Use browser navigation bar (back, forward, refresh, location window, etc.)
- Print a web page
- Search the web using a search engine
- Participate in a web discussion forum
- CUA Computing Environment
- Log onto, check and send email with your CUA Webmail account
- Find and enroll in classes on Cardinal Station
- Locate books and journal articles using ALADIN
- Manage files in My Files in Home@CUA(also known as the M drive
- Find the following items on SLIS’s web site: course catalog, class schedule and syllabi for the current and past semesters, faculty information, administrative forms, SLIS program requirements and courses of study and academic policies
- Academic Software
- Use BlackBoard learning management system (LMS): view announcements and course materials, read and post to discussion forums, submit assignments, view grades
- Participate in a webinar using web conferencing software such as Adobe Connect Pro Know the hardware, software and network access needed

- Daily access to desktop or laptop conforming to specifications suggested by CPIT (http://computing.cua.edu/start/sci-info.cfm)
- Internet connection with access to and enough capacity to stream video and audio (e.g. YouTube)
- Software installed on your computer – current versions of:
- Operating system - Windows, Mac OS or Linux
- Word processing, presentation, & spreadsheet software (MSOffice, Open Office, etc.)
- Web Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera)
- Anti-virus software
