Student Baseline Technical Requirements

Technology Expectations for SLIS Students, established by the SLIS Technology Committee
Approved October 5, 2009

Successful progress through the Master's program requires competencies in basic computer skills and programs, such as communicating via the Internet, as well as accessing library and office applications. This list provides requirements to aid prospective and current students in assessing their skills and abilities along with links to tutorials to obtain these skills.

For students wishing to enhance their computing skills, we also offer a series of free Saturday workshops every semester. They cover basic skills that are not taught in regular courses. Details of past workshops can be found at http://slis.cua.edu/tech/slis-computer-workshops.cfm.

CUA and SLIS also offer computer lab facilities for student use. CUA computer labs are listed at http://slis.cua.edu/tech/slislab.cfm. SLIS maintains a computer lab in Leahy Hall as well as portable computers for students to check out. See http://slis.cua.edu/tech/inventory.cfm for details of SLIS resources.
